Unhappy Recap: Marlins 6 Mets 5

Fuckin Billy Wagner. He is going to be the biggest obstacle to the Mets success in the postseason. It's unlikely that there are going to be anymore huge save chances in this regular season. But if he blows even one game in the playoffs like he did tonight then the Mets probably won't be able to overcome that. He now has 22 saves and 5 blown saves this season. In case you didn't see it, he gave up a bloop single, then a home run to Josh Willingham.

The first day of the rest of Aaron Heilman's life was pretty good. He got through the 7th with no problems. Chad Bradford stepped into Heilman's role with no problems.

Bradford would have been the winning pitcher in this game thanks to the great Jose Reyes. His homer in the 7th gave the Mets the 5-4 lead. Reyes scored on a single by Delgado in the first inning but the Mets could have had more. Reyes fell rounding third on Beltran's hit and had to return to third base. Beltran probably would have been safe with a triple had Reyes tried to come around to score, but he had to go back to second base and got nailed there. Reyes also tripled and scored another run.

Beltran made up for it in the third inning when he blasted his 33rd home run, driving in Lo Duca. Two thirds of Beltran's homers have come on the road, one short of the Mets record held by HoJo.

Once again Mike Pelfrey pitched ok, but fell victim to the big inning. I have zero confidence in him this year and I think the Mets should send him back down. His ERA is 5.38, almost exactly 4 runs per every 5 innings pitched.

Pelfrey was hurt in the first inning by another misplayed ball by Lastings Milledge. Not sure if he could have caught it anyway, but it's distressing to see an outfielder who seemingly can't judge flyballs.

Marlins starter Scott Olsen has been on fire lately. Last time we saw him fighting with Miguel Cabrera in the dugout. This time he struck out 10 Mets in 6 innings and was sweating profusely.

The report says 16,641 showed up for this game, but I think they were all in the bathroom. No way that mroe than 5,000 were left to see Willingham's game-winning home run.
