Happy Recap: Mets 7 Braves 1

This game is just what the doctor ordered. A game the Mets absolutely had to have and they got it.

Carlos Delgado hit what may have been a season changing home run to give the Mets the 3-0 lead. I admit that when Delgado came up with men on and 2 outs I thought for sure he'd make out, but he blasted one to deep center and I guarantee every Met player and fan took a deep breath when that one went over the wall.

John Maine returned to his first half form just when the Mets needed him to. He pitched 7 good innings which was good enough to rest the Mets bullpen. He couldn't go any further because he threw 112 pitches (a lot of 3-2 counts). Maine's gut check came in the 6th when the score was 4-0 and he loaded the bases with none out and Chipper Jones up. He got popups from Chipper and Teixeira and might have escaped with no runs had he not thrown a wild pitch that scored a run.

Jose Reyes may have broken out of his slump with two extra base hits including his 10th homer of the year.

The Mets broke the game open in the top of the 9th when Marlon Anderson smacked a bases loaded double. He is 8 for 18 as pinch hitter for the Mets but he is also on a 10 for 15 tear with 11 RBI, 5 doubles and a homer. Just for fun stats since August 18: .667 BA, 1.200 SLG & 1.887 OPS.

And Anderson's hit gave Wagner a night off which should help. Heilman and Schoeneweis closed it out to give the Mets an absolutely huge victory.
