Mets At the All-Star Game

Four Mets competed in the All-Star Game.

David Wright had a single in 3 at bats, and broke his bat in the 6th inning.

Carlos Beltran tripled in 3 at bats, but wasn't hustling out of the box. He scored on a sac fly to give the NL it's second run.

Jose Reyes had 3 hits in 4 at bats. In the first he singled and stole second and even though Bonds didn't advance him he scored on a single by Griffey.

In the third inning Reyes hit a fluke double that skipped past A-Rod when it hit the lip of the grass by third base.

Billy Wagner pitched the 8th inning and allowed a 2-run homer that proved to be crucial for the American League.

Let It Rain

For the second straight day the Mets caught a break from the weather. Wednesday's game ended after 6 innings givine the Mets and rain shortened victory, and Thursday's game was canceled altogether. That means the Mets do not have to call up Mike Pelfrey.
El Duque will start game 1 of Friday's day-night doubleheader and John Maine will start game 2.

I do feel bad for these kids who had to sit out the rain delay though

SI Jinx?

The Mets began their current tailspin on June 3rd, predating this Sports Illustrated cover, but that hasn't stopped some people from blaming SI for the Mets current problems. You can read the article by Gary Smith, which is mostly about Omar.

You'll remember a similar gathering of Mets players was featured on SI's covers.

Ron Darling says Keith Hernandez calls the redass - el rojo

And in 1999, SI celebrated the best infield ever.

I love Reyes, but I still miss Ordonez
