Happy Recap: Mets 6 Phillies 5
The game started with the Phillies having the umpires check El Duque's hat for an illegal substance. It was ruled to be just rosin.
Delgado finally did some talking with his bat hitting a two run homer in the second inning. In the third Reyes homered as well, on a pitch about 6 inches off the ground.
Delgado doubled in the fourth and then scored on a two out hit by Castro (the best backup catcher in the majors). Castro then scored from second on a single to left by El Duque, something Gary Cohen didn't seem to think was possible. But Castro was running hard, the throw was low and the catcher dropped it. A good throw would have had him.
In the top of the 7th, Reyes tried to steal second and he was called out on a terrible call and Reyes was the angriest I've ever seen him. When he came out to play defense the next inning he was still screaming at the umpire. Beltran had to run in from the outfield to try to calm him down. That didn't work, so then Wright tried to calm him down. That didn't work either. He just stood there between innings with his hat and glove on the ground without taking any groundballs.
El Duque had a pretty decent start, giving up two solo home runs and not much else. But at this point in his career he is just about a 6 inning pitcher, he was tired by the 6th, and needed a strikeout of Rowand with two on and two out to get out of trouble in the 6th.
The bullpen combination of Mota, Heilman and even Feliciano made it a little more exciting than it needed to be but Wagner was awesome, striking out the side in the 9th inning.
